Hood Warfare 2 vs Hood Warfare: What Changed in 4 Years
Hood Warfare 2 against the 2023 original: engine, price, maps, modes and weapons compared, based on both games Steam listings and shipped files.
What is the difference between Hood Warfare and Hood Warfare 2?
The engine and the content. The 2023 original was a Unity Early Access release built around Detroit, while Hood Warfare 2 is an Unreal Engine 5 rebuild set in Chicago with new maps, new weapon animations and a larger attachment system. They share a developer and a tone, not a codebase.
| Hood Warfare (2023) | Hood Warfare 2 (2026) | |
|---|---|---|
| Release | 26 January 2023 | 8 October 2026 |
| Status at launch | Early Access | Full release |
| Engine | Unity | Unreal Engine 5 |
| Setting | Detroit | Chicago |
| Price | $4.99 | $5.99 |
Is Hood Warfare 2 a sequel or a remake?
Both, depending on how you count. It is the next entry in the franchise and it replaces the original’s content wholesale — new maps, new modes and a new engine — so there is no shared progression or carry-over between the two games.
How do the maps compare?
They do not overlap at all. The original was built around Detroit, while Hood Warfare 2 shipped with four Chicago maps — Downtown, Suburbs, The Trenches and Chicago Mall — and every one of them supports all six of its modes. There is no map carried over from the first game.
How do the modes compare?
Hood Warfare 2 launches with six: Turf War, GangBang, Chaos, Hit A Lick, Destroy The Block and Chain Snatch. The original launched in Early Access with a smaller set and a store page promising “more weapons and modes over time” — so the sequel is the first entry to ship with a fixed six-mode lineup.
The clearest documented difference is elsewhere: the 2023 store page advertises built-in voice chat as a feature, and the Hood Warfare 2 listing does not mention voice chat at all. The original also advertised a dynamic weather system that the sequel’s listing does not repeat.
| Feature | Hood Warfare (2023) | Hood Warfare 2 (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Modes at launch | Early Access set, more planned | Six fixed modes |
| Voice chat | Listed as a feature | Not mentioned on the listing |
| Weather system | Advertised as dynamic | Not advertised |
Which one should I buy?
Hood Warfare 2, unless you are specifically interested in the original. The sequel is the supported game, it is the one receiving updates, and it costs a dollar more than the 2023 release — while being four years newer and built on a current engine.
Is the original still worth playing?
It is still listed and still playable, and it has its own community. What it does not have is the sequel’s map pool, attachment depth or post-launch support — so treat it as historical interest rather than a parallel option.
Will my progress carry over?
No. They are separate games with separate save data, so reputation, weapon challenges and skins earned in the original do not appear in Hood Warfare 2 — and there is no import, transfer or account link between the two listings. You start from zero in the new build.
Where do I go next?
If you are starting fresh on the sequel, the beginner guide covers your first hour, and the platform page covers price, availability and what the game ships on.
